Customers say

Customers find the juicer makes great juice that retains its taste and vitamins better, and appreciate its ease of use, taking about 2 minutes to set up and clean. Moreover, the juicer works well for years, is super quiet, and customers consider it worth the price. However, the build quality receives mixed feedback - while the motor is rock solid, some units broke around 2 months.

Not Another Review!!
I bought this juicer on a whim, sort of. I heard of a deal where I could get this for $206 shipped as opposed to the $299 price tag. Somehow, it seemed so much more tempting. Suddenly juicing and juice fasts are all the rage. Maybe not suddenly, but I am noticing people talk about them more and more. I began my research when I heard of this deal. Even at $206 I wasn't about to jump in and buy something that made no sense to me. Like one reviewer mentioned, the cleanup is where he falters; this is my case as well. If using this thing, cleaning this thing, and storing this thing are nothing short of a pain in the rear, I won't use it much more than a few times. The novelty will wear off and I'll want my counter back. Cleaning: This is a huge deal to just about everyone, I think. There are 8 pieces that you will have to clean after juicing; pusher, collection bowl (2), juicing screen, auger, hopper (funnel), drum cap, and the drum (the part the auger sits in). If you use the sieve then you have to clean that. Tear down and rinse takes less than 4 minutes (includes time for water to get warm and me to dump the pulp extracted). Not counting any time for anything else, the 2 minute clean up is indeed pretty accurate. I let the parts dry in a dish rack until I am ready to use them again. Storing: I am not as limited on counter space as some are, but I don't like cluttered counters. With a mixer, coffee pot, canisters for whatever, and a toaster oven, I am pretty well set on counter space. I feel as though this doesn't exactly spare space but it is not so overwhelmingly huge that you feel like you couldn't work on the counter in front of the machine (if stored against the wall with the logo facing you). If space is an issue, the built in handle is fantastic and you can easily drop this into a cupboard. If you're juicing multiple times a day then that would get tedious. Noise: If you've ever owned a Magic Bullet then you will be pleased with the noise level. I understand the RPMs are like night and day, but the Bullet is so loud I always felt bad using it in the morning. I can have a conversation on the phone while juicing and not feel horrible about it. Fruit Juice: After doing much research I was learning that masticating juicers were great for greens whereas the centrifuge juicers were better for fruit. I've never owned another juicer so I can't speak to that. I will say that I understand where the design lends to greens more so than fruit (like oranges or lemons). Oranges in this thing tend to juice pretty well but I think having to cut the peel and rind off is a pain. I think I'd rather eat my orange. If only to curb the green flavor, I will put ½ orange in the machine. Apples did well, which seems to be completely different than many peoples' experiences. I used green apples and have recently bought some cameo apples to try. I tried a banana and I guess it went okay. I think if I froze the banana then it may have been better but that was just a spur of the moment idea that I don't plan to make a big part of my juicing. Blueberries did surprisingly well but I understand these are better in a blender. To each their own. Those are all the fruits I've tried in 2 days since owning this machine. Greens: This thing was supposed to be great for wheat grass. I must have done something wrong because the grass went in and quickly just hung out around the auger until other things pushed it through. I know I got the juice, but for straight wheat grass, I am not sure. This could be user error. Kale is awesome. It is easy, it does squeak a bit but overall, most of my juice has been had through the use of kale. Carrots, this thing juices carrots very well. I don't seem to have lumpy juice and the collection of pulp suggests they feed and release quite well. Cucumbers are different. They seem to do just fine but I did the wheat grass then cucumber next and I don't think that was really going well for me. I guess I need to think about the grass, kale, cucumber, then carrot. There was something said about rotating what you're juicing and I think I understand the reason for the concept. I have not tried any other greens yet. I don't know if I'll set out on a juice fast anytime soon. I don't think it is safe to jump into that without more research. This model does really do well and I have learned that there is no real one-stop shop for a juicer that does everything well. I think if this does fruit okay and greens well, that I would rather have greens be easy and fruit secondary since I think the health benefits are better from greens. I understand the VERT or VRT model does fruit better and still does greens well, but I think people say that for leafy greens the 8006 is better. One could go crazy trying to really figure it all out. If you just want fruit juice then I think you need more research though. I don't believe this is the machine for you. Juicing Time: Juicing on the VRT is quicker, no doubt (all the videos prove that). Reading reviews and watching videos is important because some of the poor reviews I read on the 8006 and VRT model make me realize that some people just don't research. That is okay, but then try to understand that many of the questions and concerns can be answered through even 30 minutes online. With a purchase that has this kind of price tag, 30 minutes is nothing compared to the headache of having to hate what you bought and return it. For me, the juicing time isn't so much of a thing; the prep time is. Prep time, in my opinion between the two, is quite similar. While the VRT has a large chute, I don't really feel like you're saving as much time. If you can find a juicer where you can toss in a quarter orange with rind and peel then we can talk about speed. In the end, I can see that providing I can keep up with the trips to the market every couple of days then I will do okay with having this as a usable kitchen tool for a long time to come. It is important not to try and buy your produce with the intention of it keeping for over a week (at least that is what I hear) so trips to the store every few days are probably in store for anyone who wants to juice at least twice a day. Any juicer will require this commitment unless you have a flourishing garden in your yard that produces everything you could possibly need. I do not so it is Whole Foods and Fresh Market for me! One last thing, I read this was made in the USA. I don't think that is the case now. There is still a 15-year warranty, but my box clearly states Korea. Now, I didn't do well in geography and I rely heavily on my GPS whenever I leave the house, but I'm pretty sure Korea isn't part of the USA.

I believe I read about every review written before ordering this item. I am a first time juicer and wanted to get as much nutrition out of my juices as possible and not have to spend hours in the process. The longest part of the process is the preparation of the vegetables and fruits, but I have a pretty good system down after about a week. The juicing does not take long and the clean up is a breeze. The improved auger on this model is truly sturdy and solid and the main reason I went with the J8006. It only requires a little counter space when using it, otherwise I tuck it away nicely. As mentioned by others, the pulp that comes out the end is moist, but not super wet and so it extracts a surprising amount of juice from everything, including greens. Some warm soapy water cleans up the attachments very quickly and I leave them on a towel to air dry. So easy to assemble, a caveman could do it (no offense intended).

The juicer much quieter than any coffee grinder and I would not hesitate to run it while others are sleeping. My basic green juice (I'll start experimenting with some others and wheat grass later) is as follows:
    -1 peeled cucumber
    -4 celery stalks
    -2 peeled organic red apples
-several leaves of Kale and spinach (or whatever leafy greens I have around)
    -1/2 peeled lemon
    -3 carrots
-4 to 6 one inch chunks of fresh pineapple

This is surprisingly tasty for a beginner like me and I plan on increasing the veggie to fruit ratio over time, because I know if I find it unpleasant, I won't drink it. I highly recommend this juicer. It originally shipped to an address I had not lived at in over 10 years. Lucky the resident who signed for it was a friend and Amazon refunded the item when it was returned via UPS, and neither I or my friend had to pay for any shipping. Even after speaking with a customer service person, who said they erased my old address, I saw it on my profile on my next purchase a week later and had to remove it again. But I paid nothing to reorder it and was merely without it for another week. I still give it 5 stars, because of the product itself.

This thing is freaking so awesome. Its very easy and straightforward to use. Extracts the juice efficiently. The pulp is barely damp at all. It makes clean up so easy. The screen is the most difficult to clean and even that is a piece of cake if you have a hand sprayer. I havent used it to mnake nut butter yet but as a juicer it cant be beat.
  • Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2012
I recently saw the documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" and became fascinated with the idea of doing a juice fast. I don't care for a lot of veggies and I know I don't eat enough of them. I wanted to see if juicing would improve my health, give me more energy, a clearer head and most of all I wanted to see if doing a regular juice fast (maybe once a week) would help me lose weight. So I basically started off with absolutely no knowlege of juicing, except what I gleaned from the documentary and a few other YouTube videos.

I quickly became overwhelmed with the amount of information available on types of juicers, particular brands & models, etc. I decided to buy a masticating juicer rather than a centrifugal one because it wasn't that important to me how fast the machine could juice; I just wanted the most nutritious juice I could make.

I had originally considered a Breville Juice Fountain, but as I said, I'd decided to pass on the centrifugal juicers. Also, there were a lot of bad reviews on the Brevilles -- namely screens breaking, plastic breaking off into the juice, motors seizing, etc. That being said I have a friend who has a Breville Juice Fountain and she hasn't reported any problems with it.

I zeroed in on the Omega juicers and watched several YouTube video demonstrations. If you're interested, look for the ones made by discountjuicers.com. (That guy is so dang perky! I wonder if he gets all that energy from the juice??) I thought that I wanted the VRT350HD (the HD means heavy duty and I wouldn't consider anything less), but settled on the Omega 8006 Nutrition Center because it seemed a little 'beefier' in construction and also because it can make sorbets. (It can also make pasta, nut butters, grind coffee, etc., but as of right now I don't have plans to use it for that purpose.) I watched a video comparison of the VRT350HD and the 8006. The VRT did extract a little more juice from carrots -- 9 oz. vs. 8 oz. for the 8006.

My juicer arrived even faster than expected (thank you, Amazon!) and my husband put it together right away. Now I am about the world's most inept person at figuring out machines, but he only showed me once how to assemble/disassemble it and I can do it quickly and without frustration. Also, it's super easy to clean -- just remember to do it right after you make your juice so the stuff doesn't harden on the pieces.

Just a note here on the original packaging -- I could tell it was a quality machine just by the heavy duty box with the copper staples! Seriously, this thing was packaged very well -- no damage to any of the contents. Also a few reviewers said that the warranty card says it's a 10 year warranty when it's supposed to be a 15 year warranty. My card says 15 years, so I guess they corrected this error.

I've read a lot of complaints that the feed tube is too small and everything has to be cut up to fit. I think that's a deliberate decision by the manufacturer designed to keep over-eager juicers from cramming way too much into the machine at once and breaking it. I don't consider the few minutes I spend cutting the veggies and fruit to be that big of a deal -- I usually spend much more time cooking a regular meal and there's MUCH more clean-up involved. Also, you don't need a lot of force to get the food down into the auger -- just a light touch with the plunger will put the food next to the auger and the machine will take over from there. I haven't had to use the reverse function to clear a jam at all, but I imagine you might need to if you're stuffing in too much, too fast.

The machine is quiet and the waste pulp that comes through is what I consider 'dry'. Basically it's just damp. As an experiment I tried running the pulp through a second time but I don't think I got more than a drop or two. I mistakenly put the screen over the collection container and it almost overflowed because the juice couldn't drain through quickly enough. After reading the directions (duh!) I used the screen afterwards to strain the juice. However I lost a lot of volume doing that because the screen caught not just the foam but all the pulpy stuff, so I decided to dump it into my juice and live with it. I already feel guilty enough throwing away almost all of the valuable fiber!

The booklet that comes with the machine has 2 very basic "recipes" - one is carrot & parsley and the other is wheatgrass & carrot. I don't consider 2 ingredients to be a recipe and wish they would've included a nice variety of juices to try. That's the ONLY thing I can fault them on. I'm sure I can find plenty of recipes on the internet.

So far I've made 3 different juices with a mixture of veggies and fruit in each. A few tips -- the instructions say to peel the produce. I didn't peel the carrots the first time and the juice had a 'soapy' taste. The second time I peeled them and it reduced that flavor a lot although I could still taste it. Baby carrots have no soapy flavor at all. I haven't bothered to peel anything else - cucumbers, apples or pears. I do, however, core the fruit.

Another tip -- I put fresh strawberries through and it did a fine job, although I did run the pulp through a second time and got a small amount of juice. Frozen blueberries didn't do as well, but I think one of the YouTube videos states that it's not designed for softer fruits. I'll just continue to use my food processor to make fruit smoothies.

After you've put all your produce through the juicer let it run for a few minutes. I was surprised how much juice came out after I thought it was done.

All in all, I'm VERY satisfied with this juicer. If you want a heavy duty masticating juicer spend the extra $$ and get this high quality one.
