- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2019I'm always hesitant to buy any kitchen gidget that takes up space, but this turned out to be a great buy. It's replaced my slow cooker and rice maker, and gets used about once or twice a week. So far I've made rice, boiled eggs, lentil soup, chicken mole, and several batches of salsa shredded chicken. Love that it handles frozen chicken with no issues whatsoever; great for a quick, healthy meal with minimal effort. Easy to use and clean. It does take up some space, but was totally worth making a home for it in my cabinet. Looking forward to hone my Instant Potting skills!
A few newbie notes:
- There is a sealing ring inside the lid that's removable for cleaning. If it's just water in there, I've just been wiping it out and letting it air dry; otherwise, I remove it carefully and wash/dry. The mole sauce did stain it, so I soaked it for maybe 5 mins with a capful of bleach in hot water which worked fine. Make sure the ring is seated properly before using again (this is easy once you know what you're looking for, and there's tons of videos online.)
- I also had one situation where the pot didn't reach pressure (again with the mole sauce.) In reading online, it looks like this can happen sometimes with thick liquids because the sauce might scorch or burn on the bottom, or if it's too full and the liquid can't circulate to build steam. In my case, I added a little more water and tried the cycle again and was able to get it to do its thing.
Great purchase, excellent quality product with plenty of dedicated fans online to provide free recipes and troubleshooting. Very happy with this product.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017I've waited a good month or so to write a review for this, as I wanted to give it a fair chance. Well -- I LOVE it. This has changed the way we cook, and cut down our dinner preparation time from 1-2 hours to about 20 minutes of active work and about 15-20 minutes of waiting.
We are largely vegetarian and eat a lot of dried beans, rice, and potatoes. This will prepare any of them with minimal effort in just a few minutes. Even the dried beans (with no soaking!) take well under an hour to prepare. Rice comes out perfectly every time, no matter how much is made, and it takes only about 20 minutes (a little longer for brown rice). What meats we have cooked in the Instant Pot have also worked beautifully – we have made absolutely delicious turkey chili and clam chowder, among others. The “sauté” feature works perfectly and will brown meats and sauté onions as well as my stovetop.
I look for excuses to use this now. About the only thing I use my stovetop and oven for anymore are frying and roasting. Anything needing sautéed, stewed, or boiled works wonderfully. We have not tried out the cake-baking feature yet, but are excited to do that and also try canning in the Instant Pot.
Bottom line – this is the best $80 I have ever spent on a kitchen product. I will be buying them as wedding and graduation gifts for everyone I know.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2017I am not going to repeat what others have said but will highlight a few important points:
1. One thing to keep in mind that while the cooking time with this is much shorter than regular cooking methods, you need to factor in the time it takes to boil the water and create enough steam to reach the right pressure. For better results, you want it to sit a little after cooking to get better results, which also takes some time. So it is not really "instant" but it does make many cooking jobs much faster.
2. I am Chinese and my wife is Japanese so we have dedicated cookwares to make rice, and we know how a pot of good rice looks and tastes like. If you don't have these, I can tell you the rice made by the Instant Pot is as good if not better than what we usually get. You add rice and water to the pot in a 1:1 ratio (eg., 1 cup each), select "Rice" and the actual cooking time is 10 min. You could manually release the pressure immediately or let it sit for 5-10 min, depending on whether you like the rice to have some texture or softer.
3. While you can use it to steam, but the food, whether it is vegetable or sausage, can be soggy. For vegetables they also turn yellow. So while Instant pot can steam (and of course it can), a dedicated steamer may work better for some of the food.
4. I personally think this is best for making stew and soup that usually takes hours and this can cut down the cooking time to be around 30 min. Since you can also sauté in it, you do not need to sauté in another device and then transfer it to the pot for making soup, as two steps can be combined in the same device.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2019Love this instant pot! It has been a great new way to cook for my family.
It really does making cooking fast. And once everything is in and you start it, it is hands off.
I will say though, even though it has a manual, it is vague. I find myself learning more on the internet and through recipe books. I am a manual reader and this one left me with questions to find answers to.
Fyi--things may cook for 5 minutes, but it cook take much longer for it to come to pressure before the timer starts. Same to de-pressurize. So a "5 minute" recipe may actually take anywhere from 20-45 minutes!!
With that being said, once you master the learning curve, this is a great tool to have in the kitchen. I can cook meat from frozen so fast, whereas before it would take all day to thaw, or having uneven defrosting in the microwave. This alone makes it worth it for me.
Also, meals that normally take all day to cook, cook in way less time, which is where this really shines. Collard greens, for example..cooked in about half hour and they were perfect.
Plan on getting some accessories to go with this. I recommend: steamer basket, trivet with handles, silicone mitts, 7 cup glass bowl (for pot in pot recipes) an extra liner (I like the ceramic one), a glass lid, and extra sealing rings (the sealing ring tends to absorb the smell of the dish thats being cooked, having extra for sweet and savory dishes is a good idea). This will help expedite and expand the use of your IP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenominal Appliance...lives up to the hype, and great bargain for Amazon Prime Day!
After much waiting since last Christmas and for the right deal to come along, I finally snagged one of these units for Amazon Prime Day last month. So far I have cooked everything from pizza soup (delicious!) to lazy lasagna to lemon garlic chicken to name a few for recipes. Also cooked up some pork back ribs before grilling on the BBQ, they literally and figuratively fall off the bone after 25 minutes of pressure cooking.
The stainless steel pot is easy to clean, and the lid sealing ring is easily removable for cleaning. Top of the inside of the lid just needs a soapy dish rag to wash off any steam or remaining food residue from cooking. The stainless steel surface is smudge resistant, so it's also just as easy to clean with a damp cloth when finished cooking.
Anyways, I have had my Instant Pot Lux for just under a month, and I have been quite happy with it. The 6 quart pot holds more than enough to feed for one person for two to three days, or serves up to three people.
Once you figure out the layout and function of each cooking preset button on the Lux, it's quite easy to use. More often than not I've been using mostly the Manual cooking time settings, but the preset buttons come in handy if you're doing meat, rice or porridge.
Two things I noticed on the Instant Pot Lux compared to other models, it doesn't have a high pressure or low pressure cooking selector, it only has high pressure. So if you're cooking something that requires low pressure cooking, you may have to adjust your cooking time accordingly or cut your cooking time in half.
But more often than not, most of the meals I've made require high pressure cooking anyways, so it's not a big issue for me. Also, the Lux doesn't have a yogurt option, but there is a workaround for making yogurt that I found online for a recipe that involves the keep warm function.
If you want these extra features mentioned, best to spend the extra money and get yourself the Duo or higher end Instant Pots. But if you're not fussy and want to still make delicious meals on a budget without breaking the bank, the Lux is the best bang for your buck. I look forward to making many more wholesome meals with my new purchase in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars MUY SATISFECHA CON MI COMPRA!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love my Instant Pot
Got this last week and have already used it several times. I'm allergic to MSG so wanted a simple way to make homemade chicken & beef stock for cooking & soups. It's so easy......done quickly and no monitoring necessary as does simmering bones for hours on the stovetop. Makes great concentrated stocks. When used for stews and curries the meat is tender and it's done within 30 mins. Just amazing.....flavours are great but it is missing the some of the concentration and carmelisation that you get from cooking things in the oven or stovepot. To compensate you can use the saute function to brown ingredients before adding the liquid to braise. It's a good tradeoff for days when time is limited or you want to braise something as part of the whole process. Important & valuable part of my cooking arsenal now and I wouldn't do without it. Because vegetables can cook as quickly as 5 minutes apparently most of the nutrition is preserved and not lost to cooking water or steam. Looking forward to exploring more cooking methods and foods. Very sturdy construction and makes an adorable little beep when you move the lid.....like R2-D2. It does have a very large footprint though if space is an issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars La mejor compra de 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional! Exceeded expectations.
This is an unreal deal. I didn't even know it was also a slow cooker as well.
Firstly, you can tell this product was designed with quality in mind b/c they didn't skimp on the manual and farm it out to some cheap contractors. It is EXTREMELY well written and will answer most questions you may have even as a beginner. Much easier than a stove top pressure cooker. Now the latter isn't rocket surgery, but this product was clearly designed for dummies like me.
The unit also seems sturdy and not shoddily put together either, which a lot of consumer electronics is nowadays to squeeze blood from that margin stone.
I would absolutely recommend this product, and at this price it's a steal.
I know I sounds like I'm a paid spokesperson here, but honestly when you get this thing for this price and you see for yourself, you might be pleasantly surprised as I was.
It has a whole bunch of features like slow cooker mode, keep warm mood, delay mode (I guess if you want food to be ready by the time you get home, thought I would not leave it unattended but YMMV. Also it seems to be designed for extra safety which if you're book smart but kind of a moron sometimes is a good thing as well.
There's a variety of non-manual cooking settings in addition to the manual (which I'm glad they included) that is supposedly designed for particular types of food and optimized for them (temperature profile, ,etc.)
You know...I'm old and most consumer stuff these days is garbage. I'm a big fan. I would say it's worth about $200.
