Awesome and endless creative fun

Awesome and endless creative fun
Gotta get away from the screens, and I got these for my son and I to get some creative time. The product itself is 5 stars, but I have to ding Amazon for using heavy duty straps to tie these three items together. I'm not a collector, so I can only imagine how angry a collector would be at the damage the straps and cheap label did to the original boxes. They aren't saving the environment with these straps, they are more plastic than shrink wrap. (see photos)

Super fun game to play with kids, and encourages creativity and positive adult-child interactions. The cubes are solidly constructed and big enough to avoid most of the choking hazard (although I’d still be very careful with them around little ones!. They’re also small enough to fit in a purse for a fun distraction while you’re out and about. We gave them to a niece as a gift and she couldn’t stop making up bigger and more elaborate stories. It kept us all from going crazy while waiting for our food :)

These are AMAZING. I am a drama therapist who works with a wide range of populations from children in schools to adults in mental health programs and they ALWAYS get a great group going. I also have to say, I even love playing with these at home with my own family and friends.

We bought a set a while ago before a camping trip, and these saved the night when it started storming (think hailstorms in May) and we had to stay in the tent all night - we told story after story by flashlight, and had an amazing and memorable time - one of my favorite trips to this day. My fiancee, who I didn't think would care at all about these, likes them even more than I do. As a drama therapist who loves storytelling and narrative, that's saying something! We actually bought ANOTHER SET from amazon for a white elephant christmas gift and they were a HIT there too. We opened them up that night and the last of the partiers in our family had lots of laughs telling stories together in the wee hours of the night.

I bring them on date nights and we tell stories while we wait for our meal, and sometimes the restaurant staff will play with us too.
I bring them to groups and tell stories with kids. I tell stories with adults.
I bring this to bars and play games with friends on the table.

Basically, they're great. Get these IMMEDIATELY, and get to storytelling!

These Cubes have proven to be a hit and FANTASTIC classroom resource for teaching English to foreign students. Have been using them successfully in 2 rural Indian village schools (where virtually no students could understand, or write in, English when I arrived).
Two months ago it was difficult to get the children to identify even 1 picture on the Cubes with its English word. Now they are writing sentences using the pictures. Based on their progress (and in conjunction with simultaneously teaching them basic English Grammar) very soon they will be writing stories!
Step1) Give each student in class a Cube
Step 2) Get them to identify the pictures on their Cube with English words (repeat this over several classes so they become familiar with most of the pictures English words, they share their word knowledge with each other freely).
Step 3) Once they become familiar with most of the pictures (takes about 4-5 class sessions by randomly issuing each student a Cube in each class session) give them each a Cube and get them to write a sentence incorporating just one of the pictures word in the sentence I.e I saw a star. This is a house. I eat the apple. etc
Step 4) Next few class sessions get them to write a sentence incorporating at least two of the pictures words. I.e I ate an apple in the house.
Step 5) Once they are all competent writing short sentences get them to use their new Grammar knowledge (adjectives, adverbs, articles, conjunctions, prepositions) to improve their sentences I.e I happily ate a shiny red apple inside the new kitchen in the big old house.
Step 6) Get then to write a story using as many pictures on the Cube as they can and using their Grammar knowledge. Repeat in as many class sessions as necessary until they are proficient in writing stories!

I've played with these with all my grandchildren. Three cubes is a good start about four years old. Just accept and praise whatever silly stories they come up with in order to keep them interested. Stories vary from things that could really happen to the magical and completely unbelievable. Lots of fun. We've also played with a group where everyone gets one dice, then tells part of a single story. We always have a good time, and it gets the kids away from anything with a screen.

I'm always looking for activities to do with my 4-year old. I first heard about Story Cubes from a YouTube channel that was discussing the best board games for kids. While this is not a board game per say, it's a great activity.

With all of the different dice variations there are many possibilities. I can't really imagine using this after my kid is older than say 8-years old, but who knows.

The only reason I have given this 4 instead of 5 stars is that one side of one of the dice had a black ink smudge on a face. I contacted the company and they say they will send a replacement, but it's still disturbing that there could have been a defect on something as simple as a dice.

The size of this product is great. It's easy to carry around when you're out and about with your kids. I could see taking these on an airplane to play on the tray, or even breaking them out at a restaurant while waiting for food to arrive.

Solid product, imaginative idea, and great for getting your kids talking instead of staring at a screen!

Super heavy material, deeply etched markings, nice black painted designs, and nine cubes in total are satisfying to hold and fun to roll. The case has a magnetically secured flap to stay shut, and the box itself opens wide to form a tray for rolling like a travel game. I use these while running or playing tabletop roll-playing games for times I need to whip up some improvisational character activities or background scenario events. Very useful for any past time drawing heavily on creativity and spontaneity.
