The product does what is claims and is blindingly simple to implement.
I pay for a 100Mbps cable Internet connection from Spectrum. With this product I am almost getting advertised speeds. My newer (2018) smartphone on 5GHz wifi connected to the same router/modem is able to peg the connection right at 100Mbps, so the connection is good. I seem to get right around 75-85 Mbps using this product, depending on which outlet I plug it into. Keep in mind the wiring in your home was not designed for this digital traffic, so expecting it to behave like a purposely built Cat5 or Cat6 network is unrealistic. Understanding those limitations and the cost I am very happy with the results and can recommend this product. If you're like me and can't stand using wifi unless absolutely necessary but don't have options to wire a physical Cat6 network, this is a decent alternative as long as you understand the trade offs and set your expectations accordingly.

Works well enough for me in my home office. I had been using a wifi N bridge for the first year and a half or so after moving to this house, and it sort of worked Ok most of the time, even for my VOIP phone, except when I would try to transfer files across the bridge. Something about that action majorly bogged things down. Even files just a few hundred KB would cause my network connection to become unusable for several minutes (that's not an exaggeration). Just browsing an SMB share seemed noticeably slower than one would expect over wifi. I think I must have been just on the edge of that thing's effective range.

The move to powerline networking has alleviated those problems. It is handling heavy two-way traffic like those file transfers much more smoothly than the wifi bridge, and it doesn't choke while doing so. It basically feels like being on ethernet.

They're not kidding about surge protectors. I did try running these through some, just as an experiment, and they didn't like it. I either got no link, or a red indicator (indicating the bare minimum speed, and probably not stable).

Because the above proved true, I did have to mess around a bit with my power and network wiring in order to maintain surge protection for my other devices. I'm not going to plug this thing directly into the wall and then run an ethernet cable straight from there into my other devices. So, I got two surge protectors with ethernet protection and put them in between these and the other network devices. This does mean I'm only getting 100mbps links (gigabit doesn't work through those surge protectors) but it's plenty fast enough for my office situation, and MUCH more usable than the wifi solution ever was.

I've grown to love powerline adapters (based largely on disdain for WiFi), and after using some from TP-Link and Trendnet, I figured I'd give these a try. All the powerline adapters I've used have worked great, but as the speeds have increased, I've upgraded (ie the TP-Link and Trendnet units were still working very well when replaced).

Anyway, these work great too. I have a townhouse with my main setup (24 port switch and a dozen servers, NAS boxes, etc...) down there, my main home theater setup (and router and modem) on the first floor and a couple bedrooms upstairs. Ethernet was easy to route to the first floor from the basement, but the second floor was another story (thus the powerline adapters). I've tried MOCA, which worked well, but this works great. Simple setup, consistent fast connections (our HDHomeRun sends bloaded MPEG2 streams to other devices via this), and no hassles.

The biggest con is the bulk of the adapter and the lack of a pass through. You will need a power strip or better yet one of those squid doo-dads. In either case, be sure they have a standard plug. Many flat or rotating plugs will not fit next to these, and these need to be plugged directly to the outlet. Other than that, these work great. Sure ethernet is better, but when that's not an option, these will get the job done.

These work great in as much as they provide a simple solution for extending network connectivity where it would otherwise not exist without having to pull Cat 5 cable. It also seems to provide a more stable connection than wireless (wireless connections can sometimes quickly drop in and out, something that is not really noticeable unless you're streaming media). They are also better than some other options out there because they take up only one outlet (some others are too big and partially or fully block both the other outlet.)

My only complaint (and warning to others) is that the speeds obtained by this device are far, far less than advertised. I got real world throughput of 60Mbps versus the advertised speed of "up to 2Gbps" (and all components in the connection are Gigabit). Now I know very well that no network connections ever reach their nominal values in the real world, but this is one heck of difference between actual and nominal. It is my understanding that this sort of performance is typical of all powerline adapters so this is a problem across the entire powerline adapter industry and not just this specific product. However, just because "everyone is doing it" does not make it okay and I consider it to be a step too far in marketing BS. Nevertheless, the actual speed is perfectly adequate for my application so I will be keeping this product. Buyers should just be aware of the real speeds that can be expected.

I grabbed for my little brother when it was a deal of the day a while back. In a town where mediocre internet is an expensive rarity, the home owners are using a wireless b router, and running cables isn't an option I was able to sneak in, plug this in and give my little brother the fastest, most consistent internet connection on the block, without the parents even knowing.

This powerline adapter is really a great option for somebody who wants or needs the performance of wired internet, but can't get to an ethernet port. Even in a house built in the late 1960s this device was plug-and-play and has performed flawlessly for almost 2 months. The best part of all of this is that, when paired with an ethernet switch both of my little brothers now have access to the internet on their computer, ps4 and xbone, and because of the reduction in wireless traffic my old man complains less about not being able to watch netflix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great! Expensive, yes, but the performance justifies the price!
Reviewed in Canada on August 19, 2015
Due to the distance between my internet modem and my computer, I've been unable to get decent speeds from my old Ethernet powerline units (both earlier D-Link products). Therefore, I had to install an expensive wireless modem (much faster than the cable service modem's wireless speeds) and a high-speed USB connector on my computer, but even then, I was getting less than half the promised bandwidth. Faced with the need to run Ethernet, I bought these units. They are on the high cost side compared to others, but their specs were also excellent and there had been favorable comments in some of the magazines I read.

They arrived, and I did a speed test on my wireless systems (including cable modem and high-speed wireless router) both going to the same NetGear A6210 USB adapter. Then, I plugged in one of these powerline adapters to the cable modem and the other to my computer's power jack. It took a reboot of the computer, and a couple of resets on the powerline adapters, but then all lights showed green and the connectivity was confirmed on my computer. Another speed test, and the results were impressive. According to my cable company, I should be getting 250Mbps down. With the cable modem I was getting 42Mbps. With the high-speed wireless router I was getting 57Mbps. With these D-Link powerline adapters, I got 129Mbps, double the wireless router speed. Needless to say, it's still below promised throughput, but I doubt I would ever get 250Mbps from my cable router!

So, these units are expensive, but they do work. They are easy to install, and FAST. Faster than the other two D-Link powerline units I tried (as mentioned, both several years old). I'm delighted with these units, and will buy two more to connect other rooms. Expensive, yes, but the performance justifies the price!

Well... I don't know where to start. I received them super super fast (so +1 for that). When I got the box its written all over the box these are the D-LINK DHP-701AVPower line AV2 etc etc. The only thing that is odd is the actual Item are Infact DHP-700 (not 701, 700)... And the other ODD thing is that on the box there is your serial number that is not the same as the ones written on the actual items... 🤷🏻‍♂️ Either way I had a bit of a trouble to connect those since I don't know why at first they found the network, they found each other and all the lights were green. Then I tried to connect to the internet on my PC and it didn't connect so I unplugged/plugged the powerlines and the CP (?) Lights on both of the powerlines were off.... Unplugged/plugged them back in same thing... Did a reset of them and there, back on all 3 lights. Next same thing no internet on the PC, then I decided to turn off my router for 1min (a bit more than that) and put it back on. And voila! Internet running at full speed. So beside the fact that the items in the box were NOT like the actual box product (got 700 and not 701) and the serial numbers are not the same 🤷🏻‍♂️ it works pretty well! Reviewed in Canada on December 12, 2019
These performed great when they were in the same room or on the same circuit. Unfortunately I needed to use them on different floors and although I managed to find a combination of outlets where I got decent speed (100-160mbps), these devices would stop working after using them for 30-60 minutes, and wouldn't work again until left unplugged for some time.

I contacted D-Link support, they stated that as the units worked when in the same room that they didn't think they were defective and stated the wiring in my house wasn't compatible for use with powerline adapters.

That might have been the end of my powerline journey... however I bought a similar AV2000 unit from a competing manufacturer, and they have been performing flawlessly on the same outlets that the D-Link adapters failed on.

These might work great for you.. but personally I'd look to the competitors for adapters that are more reliable and consistent.

Basically using your primary residence’s internal electrical wiring as a CAT Ethernet cable to send an internet connection/signal to anywhere that has an electrical outlet. Was able to get WiFi in the basement of my 2 storey home but at 10-25% of the theoretical maximum bandwidth speed and data transfer rate provided by my Internet Service Provider (ISP). Not magnificent but decent. Got 15-25 Mbps out of the theoretical 150 Mbps maximum bandwidth speed from my ISP.

So I use it in my room on the 2nd floor of my house. My router is in my basement. Very plug and play. A direct connection to my router gives me 2 ping 300 mb/s Up and 300 mb/s down. With this and the computer in my room upstairs I get about 4 ping 200mb/s Up and 200 mb/s down. Obviously some loss in speed but still better than wifi and a whole in my wall. It's plug and play too which is great. Only issue ive found is very occasionally I need to plug out and back in because I have loss of speed or high ping but that's not too big a deal since it takes like 4 seconds to do.
