The perfect robomop for a smaller home.
5 out of 5 stars
The perfect robomop for a smaller home.
Our new-to-us home has beautiful white oak flooring throughout the 1080 square foot main level that is split into a living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a hallway, and a cutout for stairs to the attic and basement. To keep the finish on our floors in good shape we knew we'd have to keep them clean so, as soon as we moved in, we bought a self-emptying Shark robovac (which is wonderful) and more recently purchased this Roomba Braava 240 robomop to keep the floors even cleaner. Our Braava 240 robomop has been great. Using nothing more than a freshly charged battery, water, and a reusable cleaning pad, our Braava robomop slowly and quietly cleans our largest room, our living room, on a single battery charge. When it's done it returns to (roughly) its starting position. It even does a great job on our kitchen floor. Our living room floor really needed cleaning the first time we ran the Braava. Along with the general dirt and dust our Shark Robovac doesn't suck up (no vacuume is perfect), there were spots where there had been small spills, and a small patch where an an oily, gummy substance must have arrived on the bottom of someone's shoe. Despite using nothing more than water and a reusable mopping pad, the Braava got everything, except the gummy spot, cleaned up and the floor looked great. Better yet, walking around barefoot, my wife and I could feel how much cleaner the floor was! If you're wondering about that gummy spot, I scraped it up with a fingernail, then used a paper towel, and a squirt of Simple Green to get rid of it. Our Braava also did a good job on the kitchen floor. I think, however, I'll try giving the cleaning pad a squirt or three of Simple Green to get it just a bit cleaner. The Braava 240 is a pretty simple-to-use tool. After vacuuming the floor, just grab the battery out of the wall charger (it takes about 2 hours to charge), out it in the robot, slide a cleaning pad in, fill the water tank through the port under the carry handle. With those preparations done, put the robot down in a corner or doorway into a room and press the power button a couple times. Cleanup is simple, too. Push the cleaning pad "eject" button, pull the battery out and put it in the charger, then drain any remaining water out. If you use reusable pads, like we do to reduce the amount of waste and chemicals we pump into our environment, rinse the cleaning pad off, then use a drop or two of dish soap and a scrub brush to gently agitate (not "scrub") the soap into the microfiber pad, rinse, repeat, and hang it up to dry. This robomop probably is nơt everyone's best mopping solution. Our small livingroom is right at the edge of the Braava 240's cleaning capacity so, if you have a larger home or want to mop several rooms at a time, you probably want to get one of Roomba's higher-end robomops. And this little mop doesn't have the smarts found on higher-end robomops. Basically, you plop the Braava 240 down on the floor facing into the room you want cleaned, push the single button on the top a couple times, and let it do its thing. There is no scheduling feature, no map of your floorplan, no electronic or magnetic barrier. However, for those who don't have larger floorplan and don't need a more autonomous robomop, the Braava 240 is quiet enough to run while you are sleeping and gets the floor clean. Now we've been using RoboMop (it has a name now) for a while, I'll add two things to my initial review, one good, one bad. On the plus side, we have a few spots in our floorplan our Shark robot vac can't get to. It's just too big to fit in the narrow spaces between some of the our furniture legs. (See picture.) I used to need to grab our regular vacuum to get those spots cleaned, but now RoboMop does them for me, and that is awesome! On the down side, RoboMop's virtual wall feature doesn't work well. If I point it into a room to and set the virtual wall, it inevitably loses track and wanders into the adjoining space after cleaning my target room, then parks itself in some random spot when the battery runs low. Today, after mopping the living room, that spot was under the dining room table. Note: We bought a used, returned-to-Amazon Roomba Braava 240 as an Amazon Warehouse deal. Other than coming with reusable, instead of disposable, cleaning pads, this "used - acceptable" condition purchase looked and runs as good as new. Pros: * Simple to use. * Quiet. * Does a good job of mopping the floor with nothing more than a reusable mop pad and some water. It actually uses less water than I would if I mopped the floor myself. * Works with environmentally friendly, reusable cleaning pads that seem to last a couple months or disposable ones that get tossed after a single cleaning run. * Leaves the floor damp, not wet, and it dries pretty quickly. * Perfect for cleaning rooms under 250 square feet. * Doesn't fall down stairs. * Stays off of most rugs. (Except really flat ones, see picture.) Cons: * No way to set up "invisible barriers" and the virtual wall feature didn't work for me. * No scheduling options. * Can't handle larger rooms. * No self-charging dock. * Stays off of most rugs and carpets with a raised edge . . . just not the thin, rubber-backed one we have leading up to our side-door. It got stuck there! (We are replacing the rug runner.)

I was not expecting to like this mopping tool before I ordered it and when I opened the box I was sure it was going to be returned based purely on it's appearance. The thing is only 7"x7" and it looks too tiny to really do anything. I was however quite surprised on how well it works. We have 3 different types of flooring throughout our house consisting of vinyl sheet flooring, engineered hardwood and carpet. The kitchen (11"x16"), breakfast nook (11'x11') and all of the 2-1/2 bathrooms are vinyl. The entrance foyer (8'x18') is engineered hardwood.

Before using the Braava in either of it's wet modes, it is recommended that you thoroughly vacuum or sweep the floor because the Braava is only made to mop floors, not to vacuum or sweep them. If you don't vacuum or sweep first, you will wind up pushing small debris around the room and creating a mess.

The first test was to tackle the breakfast nook. I used the invisible wall mood to prevent Braava from going into the kitchen which adjourns the breakfast nook. Rather than having the Braava maneuver around the table and chair legs, I flipped the chairs over and put them on top of the table and pushed the table to the far end of the room. As the Braava did it's zig-zag pattern in the room, I re-positioned the table a few times to keep the table legs out of the path of the Braava. The breakfast nook is a perfectly square room and the Braava completed the task perfectly. The last thing it did was to go around the perimeter 0f the room to get all the edges. Our carpeted family room adjourns the breakfast nook on one side and the Braava did not go past the edging of the carpet. Job done perfectly!!

The next task (after recharging) was the kitchen. Again, I set up the invisible wall to prevent Braava from going back into the breakfast nook. I was amazed as the Braava began it's job. It began going the length of the kitchen and when it got about 12' into the room it made a u-turn and came back to where it started. It continued the zig-zag overlapping pattern until it completed the first 12' of the room. It then traveled beyond the first 12' and began a zig-zag pattern in the opposite direction until it completed the entire floor. It then spent considerable time going in different directions until it eventually covered all of the edges of the kitchen. It was actually interesting to watch. When it was finished, I gave a close inspection and found that it had cleaned the floor as good or better that if I had done it by hand with a mop. I had intentionally let the floor get dirtier than I normally would knowing I was going to be testing the Braava and it passed the test with flying colors.

As to exactly how it works, I think that the iRobot engineers put a lot of thought into the design of the tool. It uses warm water only and the cleaning agent is in the pad itself so I don't think there will be a clogging problem with the jet in the future because of residual cleaners. It uses so little water, I will probable use distilled water in the future to help prevent jet clogging down the road. The pad itself vibrates to help the cleaning action, similar to the action of a hand-held sander. With the wet mop pad on it, the Braava moves in a Y pattern much like you would do using a sponge mop or swiffer. When you put the damp mop pad on it, the Braava only goes forward and back and squirts less water on the floor. This is what I used in the foyer on the engineered wood flooring because I do not want too much water on the wood floor. The third choice of pad is the dusting pad that uses no water and causes the Braava to got in a continuous forward zig-zag motion. The Braava senses which pad you are using and operates accordingly.

One of the things that surprised me was the size of the battery. When I unboxed the Braava and saw the battery, I thought that it was going to be the weak point of the tool. The instructions state that it must be charged for two hours before using and it probably took pretty close to that on the first charge. When it finished the first 11'x11' room, I put the battery back in the charger and it only took about 15 or 20 minutes for it to get back to full charge.

The only caveat I would add to this review is that it works extremely well on smooth floors without high and low spots. I would imagine it will not do as well on heavily textured tile or stone floors especially if they have deep grout lines. I have seen other reviewers say this and I can fully understand why.

My wife and I are both in our eighties and the Braava is definitely going to make our lives a lot easier.

    Color: WhiteVerified Purchase
This machine is the most amazing houseware I have ever purchased. I don't say that lightly.

I originally bought this guy to wash the bathroom floor in between days when I steam mop it. I'm OBSESSIVE about keeping the grout in my master bathroom clean and the floor debris-free (plus I have a health care issue that sort of dictates that the bathroom be kept as clean and sterile as possible) and I really felt myself being pulled toward scrubbing the floor daily. That's not good for the bathroom or my back (I was born with Spina Bifida), so I thought I could get this little robot and have it wash the floor for me so I wouldn't feel like I needed to be scrubbing daily.

The Braava works wonderfully. It's NOT a deep scrubber- it won't get your grout white after years of grime, and it's not going to take the place of a regular deep clean. It WILL clean all smooth surfaces (tile, laminate, vinyl, etc.) and it does pass over the grout enough times to moisten it and get up any debris. I run it twice with two re-useable/washable pads (order those separately, Roomba makes their own, but we do have third party ones that are fine, too).

As far as tile, I rinse the re-useable pad and then before the machine runs, I spray a little puddle of anti-bacterial Windex or Scrubbing Bubbles on the floor in the robot's path, so the pad soaks up the cleaner as it goes by and then cleans the entire floor with it. You can run the robot in water-only mode, but I like using a cleaning agent.

Here's a trick- if you are worried it's not hitting all the surfaces in your rooms, get a washable marker and leave little dots around the areas you want to make sure get hit. If the robot washes those areas, you'll know because the mark will be gone. If not, you can use the mobile phone app to instruct the robot to deep clean that specific area (plus the marker wipes up with a little bit of water).

The surprising thing about this cleaner is something I didn't even consider when i bought it- dry cleaning mode. There are swiffer-esque pads available (disposable) and they get up EVERYTHING. Hair, fur, seed, dirt, sand, crumbs, dry cat food, etc. I wasn't expecting to use this machine in any other way except for the wet scrubbing mode in my bathroom, but I loved the dry sweep mode so much I bought a SECOND robot for our great room and I literally start it up in the morning with a dry sweeper pad on it and leave it running all day. It goes through the kitchen, entry and living room and whenever it cycles out, I just move it to a new area and restart it. I get several hours of cleaning from one battery charge.

We have four cats, two birds, plus my thirteen year old and my husband (both who shed more hair than the cats it would seem, which kinda grosses me out...) so there's always something on the floor no matter how many times a day we vacuum and "zip up" with the stick vacs. So now we just have this guy running and even with us vacuuming daily, it still gets up enough stuff to gross me out and want several more of these, to run in little formation, all over my house.

We also use it to clean the laminate floors- out of all the combinations we try the best is either using one of their disposable wet pads or using a dry re-usable wet pad and spraying a bunch of Bona on the floor in front of the unit when we start it. There *can* be a little streaking, but I am okay with that- I'd much rather have that than have gross sticky spots of that weird and disgusting oily/waxy bloom that we get with other cleaners.

I have never had a product that I have found so useful and time saving and life enhancing like this one. If you're a clean floor freak, you HAVE to get this. Order a bunch of re-useable/rewashable wet pads and a bunch of the disposable dry sweeper ones.

JUST GET THIS. (sorry for the all caps scream-y yelling thing, but I can't recommend this enough.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic. Better than their newest 'Smart' model. Cleans faster and more thoroughly.
Reviewed in Canada on June 20, 2019
    Color: WhiteVerified Purchase
I originally bought iRobot's newest M series floor washing robot. I returned it as it was incompatible with my laminate flooring room dividers (they were too high and it only went over them 15% of the time negating its smart feature). But it also left streaks, didn't get the edges of the room nicely.

So I bought this unit for less than half the price. And it is soooo much better. No smart features, but for cleaning it really packs a punch. It does a rough move through the room first and you think its missing stuff, but no way. It then goes back over the room following each obstacle and getting every spot. No streaks! Got a sticky spot off no problem. I think the vibrating cleaning head really does help with sticky stuff.

The amount of water it sprays with the orange (damp) mop pads is perfect for laminate. No more than I would use with a hand mop pad myself. Even the blue one would be fine if you double checked it afterward just to be sure it was drying nicely. But for vinyl, tile or wood, all of them would be just fine.
All 3 functions work great and very quickly, I was surprised. I thought I would not use the dry mop feature but man it picks up fine dust and cat hair that the vacuum misses, and so quickly too.

And I thought the size might be an issue but it is not. This is one quick and efficient robot.

Battery life is fine as long as you are rotating what rooms you are doing in a day. I find that it does a good damp mop job in 3 rooms before running out. Think of an L shaped Kitchen/Dining as 2 rooms as an example. It uses more power based on what type of cleaning since it adds additional passes. Dry mop is 1 pass, Damp is 2 and Wet is 3. So it makes sense that each one uses increasing battery power. But 3 rooms on Damp seems about right.

The battery charger is very nice and just sits unobtrusively on the wall in the hallway.
I did purchase additional batteries but they have not arrived yet, and I really haven't missed them. I think 3 rooms a day is perfect for me, and I rotate through my 1200 sq ft bungalow. But I suppose they will come in handy on a big whole house cleaning day if that's what I need.

I did purchase after market cleaning pads and am pleased with them. I do like to change pads in between rooms as they get surprisingly dirty. Perhaps that will change since this little guy means I will be cleaning the floors more often, but only time will tell on that.

Overall I am shockingly impressed. This is a fantastic buy at an amazing price for what you get. I would highly recommend this over their other 2 models.

Although small, she does a brilliant job of cleaning floors.
I’ve called her ‘Flora’ and she’s a big help with the housework, I can set her off in one part of the house and get on with other things, or set her off overnight, then by the next morning, the floors are clean.
She is a little expensive, but compared to the new version by iRobot which can be programmed, it’s much more reasonably priced.
    Would definitely recommend her.

The amount of time it takes to mop 1 room , you can mop the whole house in the same time by hand, very slow n its mop size is very small too. Wasted 40k on this by watching its reviews and videos but nobody told its negatives, total waste of money, plz dont buy this and spend your money on something useful ..wish I had known these problems before buying it..
