225. Heavy-hearted P!nk beauty

225. Heavy-hearted P!nk beauty
For an artist who has achieved massive commercial success throughout her musical career, P!nk's speech upon being given the Video Vanguard Award was the highlight of this year's MTV VMAs, by most reasonable standards. After giving such a galvanizing speech about non-traditional gender appearances, she would be least expected to talk about Barbie dolls. The immediate presumption might be that a P!nk track entitled "Barbies" would tackle the facade of beauty in our world. But P!nk makes an emotional plea, by admitting to wishing to return to the innocence of youth, playing with dolls in her room. Similarly, on the cinematic "Wild hearts can't be broken", amidst strings and a piano, underneath the fragility there lies feistiness, with P!nk claiming that "there's not enough rope to tie me down" (she is most likely to use a rope for her soaring aerial acrobatics!). Melancholic, superb first single "What about us", indicated that this album would be a sentimental one. It is a heartbreak album more than anything, including as well some somber meditations about today’s statecraft. Adding next to the aforementioned tracks the P!nktastic title-track, and one has the 4 key - and standout - songs to "Beautiful trauma". The sassy, Eminem-assisted "Revenge", pop-rock stomper "Whatever you want", the gut-wrenching "But we lost it", the latin-influenced "Where we go", "For now", a guitar ballad, the super catchy "Secrets", the R'n'B flavoured "Better life", the anthemic neo-gospel "I am here", and the bluesey "You get my love", round off this pop powerhouse's 7th offering. One that displays a wonderfully minimalistic production, is beautifully paced, balances finely between personal beauty and universal trauma, and stands as an imperative reminder of P!nk's often underrated vocal skills. Even the artwork in the 20-page CD booklet is fittingly less loud this time around (LP edition is nicer, plus, it comes with a download card). P!nk has always been somewhat of an outsider, but instead of trying to fit into the traditional pop role, slowly and steadily she crafted her own place in pop. Building upon the life lessons that marriage and motherhood brought, the new record offers some new chapters in her journey of self-discovery. Confident and comfortable, intelligent and insightful, real and raw, "Beautiful trauma" is all about life's duality. Looking at life through a more mature lens, and sounding gloomier and heavier than in her previous efforts, "Beautiful trauma" peels back the layers on Alecia Beth Moore (real name). An evolutionary work, showcasing a 38 year-old young woman who has grown with her lyrical choices, now at her most confessional and revealing, and just as relatable as before. Staying true to what set her apart ever since she burst into the music scene back in 2000, P!nk is no doubt unlike "Most girls". She has yet to come up with a perfect set, but this new one, alongside its antecedent, 2012's "The truth about love", is close to being one. Note: A behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of "Beautiful trauma" is, also, out; definitely worth watching. "Freeze frame, pause, rewind, stop".

I purchased a vinyl copy of this album and it arrived this morning! It is beautifully put together on 2 LPs, with beautiful artwork on the inside. It also comes with a digital download so you can put your music on your favorite device and take it wherever you go. I can’t wait to dive deep into each of these tracks. I love P!nk! I will upload the photos now and give a more detailed review of each track later.

Initial impressions: This is P!nk doing her thing! If you love her you will love this album. She is very soulful on this album and you can hear her heart especially in songs like You Get My Love (just wow! I love it!). The song Barbies has a guitar acoustic feel, the syncopated beat of the drums and its like she is sitting in your living room singing just to you. So far I'm a big fan of this album!

I'm really glad that most artist are putting their music on vinyl again. I love playing records. I know there is a huge debate on the sound quality but there is a certain richness you can only achieve on vinyl.

Enjoy the photos, I took them with my iPhone. I am not a professional photographer in anyway, so I hope you enjoy.

If you are a fan this is vintage P!nk. At times it is beautiful like a flower as her voice's range takes you for a walk through a field of wildflowers. At other times it is as raw as an open wound and you feel like you are in some very dark place, scared of what might be around the next corner. Listening to some of these songs you have to wonder what it must be like to be someone in her life. Her music is so passionate and so open that you sometimes feel like you are reading someone's secret diary, and you feel guilty listening to the passion and the pain that seems like it should stay secret.

I will say that the explicit version of the album IS NOT SUITABLE for children (and probably work without headphones.) But if you are a P!nk fan you will not be disappointed. Oh, and so much for her maybe toning down her stuff now that she has kids.

Barbies, I AM Here, But We Lost It and Where We Go are among the most heartfelt and beautiful songs that have ever come from this brilliant artist. I love her uniqueness. She has proven she is not just another pop star. She is a real human and her music has reflected her growth. It has been such a pleasure to see her evolution. I love the nostalgic sense to Barbies, and the confidence and openness and risk-takerness that P!nk expressed in I am Here, and the musings of But we Lost it. I am not sure what it is about Where We go, but it is one of the ones that I loved the most when I previewed the album's tracks before listening to it on repeat on YouTube for two days. I just had to buy the CD for my car! MUST HAVE MUSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR!! While most albums have between one and four good songs, this album has thirteen amazing songs!
