This game didn't quite live up to the original series. For one thing, I expect much more of a sand-box approach to the puzzles and instead it is extremely linear. I found that aspect disappointing. However, the story and the humor make up for that. There are a lot of 'watch the movie' parts, which I'm okay with, but other people might not enjoy. The puzzles themselves aren't terribly difficult, although, like most games in this genre, you are bound to get stuck once or twice (until you look up the solution and then want to face-palm since it's usually obvious once you know the answer). I found that the instances where you are expected to do more platform-game style play was a bit jarring (it was unexpected and doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the game. It's not exactly challenging gaming, but I don't think most people who buy this would be anticipating having to do this at all).

I will admit that I prefer the fact that this game is very forgiving when you screw up. It almost immediately forces you to re-do a puzzle that you've flubbed rather than start back at a distant save point (I can't say I miss that aspect of the original series).

I do have a minor quibble - the subtitles do not indicate who is speaking, so it can be confusing if the volume is off (they should at least have used different colors in the text!)

Overall, I enjoyed what I've played and look forward to more.

EDIT: I've now played through this first chapter and would like to say that it was fun all the way through, but I never really noticed much impact that the 'branching storyline' was supposed to have. It's possible (likely?) that the choices made in this chapter will impact later chapters in more obvious ways, but don't expect much besides a few dialogue changes in this chapter. This makes for a low re-playability, but I'd say it's still worth the price of admission.

First of all I’d like to say that this is something I don’t do very often. I’ve never had a game that made me want to write the gaming staff and tell someone how wonderful it is. I feel that most games are a waste of time and that kids today spend way too much time with them Instead of doing productive things that enrich the lives of others and themselves.
I was a huge fan of the original Sierra games. I played literally all of them. I felt that Ken and Roberta Williams were ground breaking with graphics and loveable characters and adventures. Anytime I played a Sierra game I was pretty much sure I was going to be totally fulfilled. I never cared for arcade style games so this format really intrigued me. I could use my puzzle solving skills and at the same time as a person that did not know how to type, was tutored into becoming quite an excellent typist as I had to get rid of Ogres and monsters before they caught me on the screen. The puzzles were not so hard that I had to waste a lot of time, but they were tough enough to make you turn on your brain and think about the situations. How many times did I push F5 before trying something stupid, just so I wouldn’t have to start over, or so I could enjoy a good laugh about how I died before trying again.
The games came out often enough that I could enjoy the full effect of the game, but looked eagerly toward the next one. Some of the puzzles were easy. Some made you think about moral decisions in life. Either way you were able to live out fantasies in a way which you felt you were a part of the adventure.
Now on to the new game. When this game was released I approached with excitement and skepticism. Would it live up to the old days? Have things changed so much that I could enjoy it as an older guy. I don’t really like watching most of the games my grandkids play because it seems like they are all about killing other characters and they are endless and never go anywhere. Was that how the new King’s Quest would be?
What a pleasant surprise from the very first screens. The game is absolutely beautiful. I could spend so much time just walking around their world and explore the country side or the caves or caverns. The graphics totally captivated me. To wander in the forest and see the animals playing and the dust in the air and the leaves falling is remarkable. To watch the sunlight or the fire from the dragon lighting up the scenes was incredible.
Sierra did that in the old days, but that old technology would only take you so far. This is incredible. It took a few minutes to get the hang of maneuvering Graham, but after a bit it was smooth sailing. This game is everything I dreamed it would be. That fact that it’s in chapters is actually kind of cool, because each chapter is pretty much the equivalent of playing one game back in the day and it gives me something to look forward too. Those complaining about the length of chapter two really have nothing to complain about either because if you want the full effect of chapter 2 you have to play it twice. I love chapter two. Trying to figure out how to save everybody was actually quite stimulating and I did find myself looking at posts to see if I could save everyone and tried so many things myself to see if I could be the first one to save everyone. That is my kind of challenge.
The silly puns and storytelling are excellent. I absolutely love the humor to this game. I love that fact you can take routes of Bravery, wits & compassion. Even though you have choices it doesn’t take you too far from the outcome of the story and encourages you to try it again in a different way.
Personally I actually found myself getting so involved in the game that I needed the break before the next chapter. I can’t become a game addict can I?
I love this game. I can almost smell the forest, feel claustrophobic in the musty caverns. I’m assuming the story may take a direction with Manny (Mannanan) and Gwydion also. That’s who I assume these unknown characters represent.
Well done Sierra and Odd Gentlemen. This is my kind of game. As an older guy now, it’s such a pleasure to relive the days of Daventry and wizards and dragons in a way that I feel a part. The only thing I miss is being able to hit the F5 button before I do something stupid.
I give this game an A+. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy this game certainly did not get caught up in the real Sierra games of old. $39 and even now I’ve seen $29 is a steal of a price. I remember paying $59 for the old ones even clear back then and didn’t get nearly the gaming time that will be involved in this whole game by time it’s finished.
    Thanks so much.

I bought the code and downloaded stream to run the game. The game did nothing but glitch on me. Every time my character was to do something I would hit the space bar and all he would do was turn around in circles and would not stop. I tried all the suggested fixes for this, like playing the game with lower resolution and at different save points but nothing worked.
I tried getting a refund through amazon first but they suggested I work with activision first to see if they could fix the issue. After working with them and not getting any better results I came back to amazon and they graciously gave me a refund even though their policy on these games is not to. I really appreciated that. I kept asking activision but they started ignoring me after the first couple of suggestions. Thanks.
My computer meet all the requirements but the game would just not work for me. I see lots of other have had no problem so maybe its something on my computer but I don't know what it would be.

While I enjoy the story, not using the mouse is irritating and make movement slower.
