FINAL FANTASY III in 3D -- now on Android!
When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to embark upon a journey to save the world.
FINAL FANTASY III was the first title in the FINAL FANTASY series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix's classic RPG saga was here to stay.
A hallmark of innovation for the entire series, FINAL FANTASY III incorporates not only a job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.
The 3D remake of FINAL FANTASY III, with fully-rendered 3D graphics, duplicated the original's success.
- The four protagonists have been completely redesigned and new scenarios have been added.
- The 3D remake has really brought the cutscenes and battles to life.
- The Job system has been improved to bring out its best and most unique aspects, resulting in a more balanced game that is easy to enjoy.
- New save functions, including autosave, allow for players to quit the game at any time without fear of losing their progress.

My review is long so here's a tl;dr for those who don't like walls of text: If you like role-playing games and grinding levels, and you understand that this is an actual game that will take hours upon hours to beat and are willing to pay the price for that experience, you'll most likely enjoy this game.
To start off, let me say that I have never played a proper Final Fantasy game. After hearing a lot of good things about the various stories and listening to the music, I decided to take a chance and purchase one of the available titles on the Kindle store. I went with III for five primary reasons: 1) it was on sale for half-price, 2) it has the smallest download size of the four available games, 3) it has the job system, 4) it features the turn-based battle system and not the ATB (Active-Time Battle), and 5) I've enjoyed every piece of music I've heard out of it. Let me add that, after spending some time playing this game, I would gladly have paid the full price for it because make no mistake, this is a full-blown retail game.
You start out as Luneth (although you can rename him if you'd like!), a young boy who discovers he has been chosen as a Warrior of Light, one who will bring hope to the land. It's now his job to find the other Warriors of Light (who can also be renamed), and together, they must banish the darkness. The story itself isn't as impressive as the stories from other FFs, but what makes this game great for any RPG fan is the grind. You're going to spend the majority of your time grinding character and job levels, but it's satisfying when, after being KO'd in a new area, you can return and one-shot the enemies, using them to train for the next challenge.
In my opinion, the music is catchy; it's been remastered so it's not the 8-bit tracks I've grown accustomed to, but I can still recognize just about every track. The four main characters look cute on the Kindle's graphics, and are well-designed. Each job has its own unique outfit, along with specialized abilities. There's no lag on my device; the game itself runs very smoothly, with a quick start-up and a clean exit. Also, if you're worried about the story, don't be; FFIII isn't a prequel to FFIV. The stories of individual FFs are not linked; the only similarities are found in spell/attack names, summons, and crystals (and even then, summons feature differing designs and crystal mythologies are not always alike).
As others have pointed out, nothing is really explained to you at the beginning. If you look in the Config option, you can read through a mini-tutorial that tells you the basics. As for the rest, you'll have to read through NPC conversations to figure it all out. And again, as others have mentioned, moving your character around on the overworld is kind of wonky. Ten hours in, and I'm still crashing into walls! If you're not a fan of RPGs or grinding, you probably won't like this game. I haven't been a part of the Final Fantasy community for very long, but if there's one thing I've learned from my time it's that FF fans almost never agree on anything. This game is one of those rare exceptions; ask any longtime fan who's played every title which FF is the most challenging, and they will probably name this game!
When I started up my first game, I faced off against the boss of the first dungeon at level 2, with 3/4 health, which was really incredibly dumb on my part. I ended up KO'd and starting a completely new file because it's not possible to save your game inside dungeons, only on the overworld map. Thankfully, I learned my lesson and made sure Luneth was level 3 at full health when I challenged him again. That's pretty much how the rest of the game has progressed so far; if I reach a new area and get seriously beaten up, I return to the previous grind spot and train-train-train until I can hold my own.
To conclude, in my opinion (formed from what I've read), if you're new to the series and you want to try one of the titles on Kindle, I'd actually recommend VI. FFVI has a very touching story, and is supposedly easy to beat, making it more ideal for newcomers. This game, despite being a port of the DS version, still frequently shows its roots as a super-hard NES game. Yet, in spite of that (and my newcomer status), I enjoy the grind and plan on finishing this game to the end.
I played it on Nintendo and later on the PC. Eventually I realized that I had an addiction to it (many many MANY sleepless nights and Zombie workdays later) so I swore off this type of role playing game since then.
Unfortunately (for me), now I've found it in a tablet form. Good thing for those Zombie workdays that I'm retired from the workforce for now, because the all-nighters are back--I can't seem to get up enough willpower to close my tablet. I'm obsessed AGAIN, all these years later.
Great visual on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9. The same music and sound effects that I remember from all those years ago. Handling controls are a little weird, they take some practice. I wish it showed the enemy status info like the old games did so that you would know how close you are to defeating the foe. It would make it easier to decide between attacking the foe, running away, or increasing your life force before you get killed. I also wish that it had more than three saved game slots. But overall, I love it. WAY too much. PLEASE NOTE that if you've never played any of the FF games before, you'll likely be frustrated for a while until you get the hang of it--as there are no instructions in the beginning. Stay with it through trial and error and you'll figure things out.
It's a lot to pay for an app game, but knowing the hours of enjoyment that I'll get from it, it's more than worth it for me. I remember dishing out big bucks for the old games. This is a long playing game, and it will take the same hours and hours to complete--so the higher price is well justified. This is a game that you will enjoy repeating, as there are so many treasures and side quests that you may have missed when you previously played. I hope the developer makes more of these FF games available for tablets, just in case I remain retired.....
Well, at first I have to say I was pretty impressed with how smooth everything seemed to be going, seemed like a great game. Problem I noticed after a while though was every time I saved, the previous file said "save file corrupted". Well, after about three hours of playing I'd had enough for a while and decided to take a break. Saved in all three spots just in case, and turned it off. Came back to it later, hit load game, and not a single save file was there. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed. Don't even know if I want to try playing it again. What if it just keeps happening?
Lovely graphics, smooth controls and the turn based combat system is perfect for touchscreen. Only niggle is the save system as you can only save to a slot from the world map but if you quick save it does not seem to save the game if you go off it. There is also an option to save to the cloud. You will need to save often as some monsters are very powerful especially if you are not strong enough or you do not have or know the right items or spells to deal with them!! Also be aware that for some reason the credits come up after defeating the second boss in the 2nd cave, this is NOT the end of the game, just the beginning!
Excelente juego de rol, de los mejores de la saga. Con más de 30 horas de diversión. Yo creo que los 12'99€ están más que amortizados. Esperando con ganas el FINAL FANTASY IV.
This game can be played with any amazon fire tv remote with an exception, you need a wireless game controller to use the "map" and "back" and "auto" buttons. You need the back button to exit the flying ship and unlearn spells. This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The Amazon fire tv remote has enough buttons but the game developer did not program all the fire tv remote buttons. The rewind, fast forward, and play buttons don't work! If they programmed those three buttons for the "map", the "back" and "auto" buttons then you can play this game 100% without the wireless game controller.
Right now I play with the amazon fire tv remote 99% of the time and would occasionally use the wireless game controller to check the map and use the back button to exit the flying ship and unlearning spells.
Also, to answer your question, why not just play with the wireless game controller 100% instead? Because I like playing with one hand. That's why I use the fire stick.
I think i'm about half way through the game, and I'm enjoying it so much already.
*Updated review* I have just finished the game and enjoyed it so much. I am changing this to 5 stars because playing with one hand on the fire tv remote was so much fun. I would like the developers to make more 3D FF3 games playable with the fire tv controller.
DEVELOPERS LISTEN: PLEASE PROGRAM THE UNUSED AMAZON FIRE TV REMOTE BUTTONS SO WE CAN USE THE MAP, BACK, and AUTO BUTTONS! THE REWIND, PLAY, AND FORWARD BUTTONS ARE UNUSED AND CAN BE PROGRAMMED! PLEASE DO THAT SO PEOPLE CAN PLAY ON THE FIRE TV REMOTE 100%
