- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016I thoght this was similar handyman, or this old house type of magazine. It is more fore ideas which are interesting but out of the many in the first magazine there was only one, and at $5 per month it is not worth it for one idea. The magazine is a mix of Gardner Baker mag, Womens Day (Yes have read them, and like that mag better then this one) and beginners handyman mag. Women will love this magazine, it covers mostly "Beautify" old furniture, and rooms, etc. Good ideas on using stuff you might toss, (No new ideas for me ... all I already knew) Guys (Young new out of the house, on their own, or older guys finding the need for ideas to make the wife happy) this mag is for you. I am single, but if that changes then I will probably order the mag again. But for now not worth it to me. I canceled my subscription. It is a good magazine, just not for men who have a lot of house skills. But if want to surprise the Woman (or Women) of the house then every male should get a copy at least to get ideas to surprise them.
5 people found this helpfulHelpful - Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2020I've always been attracted to the REAL SIMPLE covers often grabbing one at the cashier stand. After a while I noticed quite the collection of issues around the house that weren't getting recycled so I must have been enjoying them. A subscription has proven to be one of the best gifts I have given myself. The articles are truly thoughtful and informative and each issues' theme seems to be directed towards me personally. An example of how a theme continues through each issue is a SPRING CLEANING one which included some chapters titled *The Mind-Set *The Basics *The Tools *The Tough Spots *Extra Credit. Within those chapters are great articles "Getting Ahead of the Mess", "How To Clean Anything", "Car-Washing Crash Course", "Take Control of Your Pet Mess" and many many others including "How To De-Germ a Hotel Room" and a surprisingly useful "What's Your Cleaning Personality". I could go on forever but I'd rather just reread this one. I love having a subscription.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019I've been reading this magazine via subscription for over 10 years because I love it. Two years ago I decided to cut back on magazines because no time to read them all but this one? no, I could not cut this out! It has simple tips on different subjects and a lot of articles brief enough to read while waiting on line or at the drs office. In fact, I now give my "old" ones to my doctor personally because she was interested more than once in an article showcased on the cover. And the cover! so bright and attractive- kind of draws one to it! Lots of recipes too!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2012I have subscribed to Real Simple for about 3 years now. Usually, there are really good tips. Some of my favorite features include ideas for books to read (readers write in to recommend books and why), and reviews for everyday items such as "best vacuum cleaners," etc. I like that they test out different everyday items (be it vacuums or shampoo) and then recommend the best for you (there are categories like, "best for budget conscious" or "best all around," etc.). These kinds of things are useful for me. There have also been a few recipes that I have tried and enjoyed from Real Simple. One (a salmon recipe) is a family favorite that I make almost weekly. I also like the page where they suggest other uses for common household items. Who knew?
Once in a while, I will find an issue that just does nothing for me. Also, I have found that the recipes seem to be going downhill. Maybe for an experienced chef with a very well stocked pantry, but when I read a recipe with 20+ ingredients, and half I've never heard of, I turn the page. Also, some recommended products and fashions are way out of my budget, but there are normally at least a few cheaper options suggested as well (whether it be clothes or household items).
All in all, I find this to be a great magazine, and much cheaper to buy a subscription for around $24 than to pay $5 monthly for the magazine at the store. I find myself hanging onto these magazines over time, because who knows when I'll need to "clean my laundry room in 15 minutes!" (another regular feature- cleaning rooms fast, exercising certain muscle groups fast, etc.).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2022I love this magazine because it is just what the title says,"Real Simple."It gives lots of easy, usable advice for issues ranging from house cleaning to skin care to social issues. Its written in an upbeat tone and broken down into sections that are quickly read.I've actually read this since it was first published and always find new things to enhance my life!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2022Native Californian wants to relocate. The magazine reads like a soothing book.
Never have I ever seen such beautiful pictures, food ideas & every page filled with information & ideas for entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2020Love this magazine. Comes on quality paper and ink. So many mags are now made out of almost tissue paper that the pages don’t even turn right, but not this one. From every one of their magazines I take some helpful idea or thought. I like the Your Words and Real Simplifier sections. I am not annoyed by the ads, doesn’t seem like too many.
