Great espresso maker.

Great espresso maker.
This the best stovetop espresso maker I've had yet. Each time I use it it fills up perfectly to the same level (see the picture). The seal between the upper and lower parts is great. It hasn't leaked at all. This product cleans very easily. I usually give it a cleaning after each use with just water and my bare hand. Sometimes I use a scouring pad that is safe for non stick pots and pans in order to get the books and crannies. Dispelling the myths: 1. NEVER USE SOAP OR PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER. IT WILL RUIN IT!!! 2. Coffee/condensation will build up on the inner part of the lid. That is normal. When you lift the lid, some coffee might spill onto the stovetop. THAT IS NOT A LEAK!!! It is gravity pulling the liquid from the lid to the ground. 3. Handles only melt if you let the heat from the stovetop melt it. Always make sure the heat is not directly below the handle, otherwise it will melt. If you have a gas stove like mine, the diameter of the flame should not be larger that the bottom of the heating vessel or chamber. If you have a coil or ceramic stovetop, the handle should not be over the heating element. Overall this is a great espresso machine that is at a great price point! UPDATE: My handle melted. Why? Because the pin holding it in place broke and the handle lowered and made contact with the metal. So it melted. I tried to contact MateoJo by calling and emailing them. Nothing. No response. No callback. Not even an auto reply email. Its been months and nothing. So I don't use it and I now use a single serve black & decker coffee maker. I love that thing. So, overall, its a good product while it lasts and MateoJo's customer service is less than desirable.

I'll write a semi-detailed review of this great little find that I bought on Prime Day. I like coffee and different ways to make it, so other than my coffee maker and french press, I was missing one of these. My opinions so far -

The look: Super clean lines, shiny without looking chintsy, very angular, looks different from every other kitchen item I have (in a good way). The unit seems very well-made, nothing rattles, nothing feels cheap.

The feel: the espresso maker feels top-notch with a comfortable handle, a sturdy top and a bottom section that holds the water. It's not light like aluminum, not heavy like thick steel, and it won't feel flimsy when you're using it.

Using it: pretty easy! Pour water into the bottom section (careful not to overfill), place the coffee tray in with unpacked coarse-ground coffee, screw the top portion in and place on low heat with the handle out of direct heat. After a while (play with the heat to see what works for you) it'll fill up the top portion with delicious espresso coffee.

Cleaning it: this is a trickier part, but not hard. Wait until the unit cools off, unscrew the top part, throw out the grounds, and rinse the parts down with water. No dishwasher, and no soap per the directions.

Support: MateoJo was FANTASTIC when it came to support. The instructions that came with the unit were precise and easy to understand, and they send emails after your purchase detailing pretty much everything about using and maintaining the espresso maker.

Summary: I really like this easy-to-use and absolutely gorgeous little espresso maker. Friends of mine have loved looking at it and seeing how easy it is to make real coffee. I'd recommend this to coffee enthusiasts in a heartbeat, for the price, features, functions and looks.

As a newbie to making Cuban Coffee, I shopped around quite a bit for a high quality stovetop moka pot. I choose this one after checking with several experienced Cuban Coffee experts and after reading the reviews for this model and the price point.

This maker is of very high quality metal. The valve works perfectly and the top screws to the bottom with a perfect seal (how threads are machined is usually an indicator of high or low quality and this one works perfectly). The mesh coffee holder is fine and cleans easily. I initially wondered why the handle was plastic but after the first use it clearly was to allow the handle to remain cool as the pot heats. The whole device cleans up easily in the sink (not dishwasher safe, according to the instructions). The handle is securely anchored to the pot so no concerns there.

It is critical that you put the pot off center on the stove element so that it heats properly and the handle remains cool. I did not do that initially and it did not work since the center of my electric range elements does not got as hot. Once I move the pot off center of the element, it worked great and this matches the instructions exactly.

All in all, this is a great pot and a great price.

If you only want a single cup of strong coffee, this unit does the trick. Get a measuring spoon or small cup and after a few pots, you will dial in just how strong you want it. My suggestion is half the available volume or less. They recommend using a coarse grind, which you should do. I have been using some pre-ground coffee I had already purchased, with a medium grind, and a small amount of coffee residue comes through, but even that actually tastes pretty good. It would have been nice if it had been dishwasher safe, but the two bottom pieces rinse quickly and a few strokes of a scrub brush gets the top piece shiny again. Remember to wash the bottom of the top piece. I also have a Cuisinart that makes "12 cups" and a Keurig. The Cuisinart makes great coffee, but 12 is too much when it is just me. The Keurig is convenient, but the coffee is not as strong. When you want to treat yourself, or are in medical need of an extra kick, this expresso maker fits the bill.
