We bought, we saw, saw too much, and darkness fell over the land.... 😱
There was a rough start to get this working (with an Android tablet).1) It does require that you download the "Wifiview" free software to use with this, and either charge it well or keep it plugged in. There is a sliding on-and-off switch on the main box.2) Install the software, and then go to your Android device settings. Select "Wifi," and choose this device. The manual that comes with this provides the device name to look for, the password, and a friendly warning not to change the password as once forgotten it could not be retrieved.3) Open the software, and go into the settings. Here you can choose the quality level for your pictures. I have not needed to do anything at all with the text entry boxes. I have had to restart the software, the endoscope, and the WiFi connection sometimes, only on start-up, and only sometimes (fingers crossed).4) Back on the main screen, you have the choice to take video, take photos, or view the video & photos created with this device. They save in their own folder and do not mix with other media.5) If you weren't able to get this far or just see a black screen, double-check check the power switch, and try adjusting the brightness of the LED lights. Those are controlled with a dial on the WiFi box, next to the power switch. (If that doesn't work, you have 3 things to try re-starting, as mentioned above).6) When you begin recording video, check the top of the screen for a digital readout (red font) of the time that you have been rolling. It appears on the screen, verifies that you are recording and helps you control clip length. The read-out has not appeared in my recorded videos. There are few settings in the software, so I do not think that you have that option. If desired, use other software to add back in, later.7) While you are recording video, you are able to also use the camera icon to snap still pictures, without interrupting your recording. Nice!8) There is a nice stiffness to this endoscope, so often we have not needed any other support. To view straight up into the ceiling, we used a rubber band to secure it to a long handle; it isn't going to stay straight and stiff for several feet in the air. We have also used a wire hanger to guide it for longer horizontal expiration, such as ductwork. If you require inspecting a longer length of this sort of passageway, you might be able to attach it to twine that you have already run through and then pull it along. The one caution is that the WiFi box would have to make it through the path. The length of this endoscope is generous enough that I do not anticipate giving that approach a try. After all, you cannot unsee what you have seen, so be careful where you look, heh.9) The length of the focal point is not adjustable. This just meant paying attention to the screen to see what we were getting, and adjusting the distance from what we wished to see clearly. The task involved some tight spaces, such as in and around electrical outlet boxes (be safe), and we were still able to adjust with ease and an easy-going attitude.10) There are indicator lights for power & WiFi. They are about as small as lights off this sort can really go, but they are there!11) Someone with low vision may be able to use this with some initial assistance in figuring it out. There is no contrast to the "on/off" lettering, though they are raised and with an attentive touch you can tell which is which. The charging connection is flush to the box, though the seam is thoughtfully designed such that you can feel the right spot to connect it even if it is positioned out of view. The dial for the adjustment to the light brightness is unmarked; you just see what happens. Labels could be added, if you like. This endoscope is bright enough, out of the box, that with a good-sized screen and using full brightness, some loss of vision can be countered and allow use of this product. At times we chose to supplement the lighting to look further down the path ahead, or to highlight texture. The additional light (bright flashlights) worked well with this product & didn't wash out the view.12) There is auditory feedback for the camera shots, that sound like a camera shutter. This is the only way that you know that your attempt at a photo registered. I find the auditory feedback to be loud. No stealth camera, here, LOL! Seriously, I have had the luxury of guarding my hearing well throughout life; if your years were spent in ways that affected your hearing, you may find this product frustrating, as you would have to leave the screen to see the saved pictures to know whether one was taken. The auditory feedback is important. It's just good to know ahead of time.13) The software download will allow you to play your videos and view photos just by navigating to them and tapping what you'd like to see. To delete, hold your finger on the item chosen to go, and a dialogue box will open to verify that it is your intention to delete. It is so easy, there are no extra unnecessary steps beyond that & I really like that vs multi-step requirements.14) To rename your photos or videos, or to organize them into folders, it seems that you must use other utilities. However, I am working on an Android tablet that is not quite as smart as salespeople would have me believe. If others can get a little more functionality than I can, it wouldn't be the first time. There are no indications that I can find that would suggest those features.15) Remember the little phrase above, that you can't unsee what you've seen? Right! The ground shook, there were screams, and loud organ chords and strobe light as we found..... Well.... OK, maybe just darkness fell over the land, and maybe that had something to do with the 2017 solar eclipse, and it was still just the chill to go along with the mystery object that will remain exactly where it is in the wall because nobody I care about is allowed to touch... THAT. That thing. Proceed carefully friend, and make sure that you want to know. ;)I gave this five stars while acknowledging what it does well, and the limits as I see them. Most of those little it's have to do with the software, and then I'll acknowledge that I can appreciate a functional no-frills approach over redundant or unnecessary bulk that takes up precious memory space. Another consideration is the affordability of this product. The price is absolutely great for this (and I paid full price). It has already paid for itself many times over, as we had quotes of $350 to $600 to check out what we just did by ourselves, with this. Other than that, it may be helpful to have an extra set of hands to help, especially for awkward areas. Dropping your phone or tablet could wipe out the DIY savings rather quickly. Oh, and there is nightmare potential. That simply depends on what you discover in YOUR house. :) If you really want to know, this can help you to get there. If this has helped you in your shopping challenge and/or brightened your day, please click the "helpful" button. I bought this boroscope to help diagnose vehicle problems. As anyone who has worked on a car made in the last 20 years knows, you have little room to work and often can't see what you're working on! This little boroscope can really help with that problem.

First - the good! It worked right out of the box. Putting the software onto my Kindle HD8 from the Google Play Store (I have play store side-loaded onto the kindle) was easy and following the directions, it immediately worked. Playing around with it in normal room light, the camera is really pretty good. It's not HD-quality...but you're not going to get HD quality in a camera this small! The app seems to work well. When I took it out to the driveway and started using it to look for a coolant leak in my truck, it continued to work well. Takes some getting used to - but I learned pretty quick how to adjust the LED brightness for the best picture, etc... I really like that the cord is flexible, but yet stiff - I had to mold it into a J shape to get a look under the water pump pulley from below while inserting it into the engine bay from above. The LED lighting works well and has a very wide adjustment range. I took a couple of pictures - the first two above are with the boroscope as-received, without any of the adapters hooked up. I like the little hook adapters - I'll probably be using these in the future. They screw on firmly and I'd have no problems using them to "fish" stuff from delicate places like engine intakes, cylinders, etc...

Second, the not so good! The DEPSTECH application is not available from Amazon - or at least I couldn't find it after a couple of searches. For me that was no big deal, my Kindle HD8 is setup with the Google Play Store side-loaded, so I got it from the play store. For folks with Kindles without Google Play side-loaded...not sure you'll be able to use this.
However, side-loading Google Play isn't hard and really opens up the Kindle to software you just cannot get from Amazon. It would be nice if the app could be available thru the Amazon App Store. I was very disappointed with the right-angle mirror adapter. The third picture was taken with it installed. It's almost like the camera isn't aligned with the mirror, so only a portion of the mirror is in the field of view of the camera. The rest of the image outside the mirror is the camera looking straight on. Also, the mirror seems to not be all that reflective - taking away a lot of the light from the camera! It's pretty useless, which is a shame as one of the selling points of this camera was the right-angle mirror adapter. I played around with the mirror for a good 20 minutes, thinking that perhaps it was dirty (it wasn't) or that it needed to not be screwed on all the way (that didn't help either). Adjusting the light level didn't help either. Maybe I got a bum mirror?

Bottom line - for the price I paid, I'm three stars out of five happy. Outside the right-angle attachment, it's a five-stars tool. I'm sure it's going to save my bacon in the future. But I really was looking forward to using the right-angle mirror, so when that didn't work...I had to take away two stars as that was the main reason I chose this unit over others.

Update 14 JAN 2019: Was contacted by Depstech customer support - they are going to send another right angle adapter. Very good customer service - so I added a star to make it four stars. Will update again when I receive the new adapter.

Update 23 JAN 2019: I received the replacement right-angle adapter a few days ago. Clearly, the first one I received was a dud - these new ones looked much better. The mirror was absolutely crystal clear, while the old one seemed like it had a film on it that was bluish-white in color. I installed it onto the boroscope and gave it a test. It works much better than the old one. It's not perfect, but for the price, it's very reasonable and will get the job done. As another review said, when using the right angle adapter, you've got to be very careful in setting the illumination as you can white-out the image quite easily.

So I'm updating this to a five star review considering what the unit cost and taking into account the EXCELLENT customer service I get from Depstech. These guys stand behind their product, respond to e-mails, and made things right for me.

I purchased this endoscope mainly to help with threading some cables behind drywall. For the price it's a helpful tool, but it has significant limitations. To be fair, I work in a medical field and am accustomed to medical-grade endoscopes which I use for intubating patients and such, so I have had to adjust my expectations accordingly for this "consumer-grade" tool.

1) Ease of use:

This endoscope is certainly very easy to use. Pairing it with your phone is simple: just download the Depstech app, follow the included instructions, and you're all set. There aren't many settings to adjust, either: you can select from four different screen resolutions, and you can rotate the image clockwise or counterclockwise in 90-degree increments.

Probably the biggest limitation of this endoscope is that once you insert it into whatever area you want to see, you have virtually no ability to steer or redirect it. Higher-end endoscopes, such as those used in the medical field, have a controller with knobs that will bend the tip of the scope so it can be "steered," but this endoscope cannot do that (but for less than $40 you can't expect it to!). You can pre-shape the scope by bending the tip for the path you'll need it to take, but once you insert it into whatever cavity you are viewing, the only way to change its shape is to pull it out and bend it again.

This inability to steer the scope requires you to be somewhat creative with how you use it. For example, if you want to see behind a piece of drywall, you need a good sized opening. If you only want to make a small hole in the wall, you might try drilling it at a 45 angle in the direction you want the scope to go rather than drilling it perpendicularly through the wall. On the other hand, if you have a long narrow pipe you want to inspect, you can probably just continue to feed the scope through the pipe and it will flex enough to follow the pipe's path.

You can somewhat compensate for the inability to flex the tip of the scope by rotating the scope with your fingertips once it is inserted into a viewing space, but this obviously becomes more difficult the farther you insert the scope.

2) Image quality:

I would call the image quality "good enough," which is to say that you can probably see well enough to accomplish whatever you are trying to do. The camera doesn't seem to be able to focus on anything closer than an inch or two away, so this may not work well in super small spaces. I also found I needed to adjust the brightness setting up and down a lot, depending on what the scope was pointed at. Having to keep one finger on the brightness knob certainly made the scope more difficult to use because it left me only one hand to hold and steer the actual scope.

3) Included accessories:

The scope includes three tools which can be quite useful: a hook, a magnet, and a 90-degree camera. I actually used the when I needed to fish a thin power cable vertically behind a drywall: First I drilled 1/2" holes in the wall, then I dropped a string weighted with a washer through the top hole, and then I used the hook of the endoscope to pull it through the bottom hole. Finally I tied this string to one end of the power cable and pulled the cable back up through the wall. The endoscope definitely made this project easier.

4) Battery life:

With a fully charged battery I got about 12 minutes of use before I needed to recharge the scope, and I did not have the light on its brightest setting. Again, this is a consumer-grade tool and not well suited to all-day-long professional use.

Overall impression: It's not perfect, but it's a very useful tool at a reasonable price. It's the kind of tool that will likely come in handy more often than you would expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to use; quick to set up

This scoping tool is actually not bad at all. It's easy to set up and use within a few minutes. The only downside is that the focal distance is quite short. that means that the picture looks rather fuzzy at anything over perhaps 15 centimetres. The lights work well out to that distance however.

I was using this to scope for rodent activity in the spaces between floors of my house, and it worked well for that, despite having a relatively short imaging range. The shaft was firm enough to handle being moved out to its full length, which made a scan along the length of the floor joists quite simple.

A good idea would be to have some kind of phone holder on a tripod or similar so that you can work solo - moving the camera while also juggling a smartphone is a bit tedious.

DEPSTECH sent me this scope as a replacement for one that was never delivered by Amazon, and I'm glad to have received this model.

 * Cord is nice and long and flexible
* App is simple. A bit primitive looking but functional
* Needed to make sure an o-ring was seated correctly, was super easy to tell
* Checked two cylinders and found one cylinder was steam cleaned - bad news but at least I now know.
